A lot of my students tell me that they feel embarrassed when they make a mistake in English or they feel shy when they say something wrong.
And I always tell them, ‘It’s not a big deal.’ It’s not a big deal.
Huh!? What does ‘big deal’ mean?
‘Deal’ normally means an agreement between two or more people and we normally use this in business.
But the phrase ‘big deal’ can also mean something important.
So when I say to my students, ‘It’s not a big deal’, that means it’s not important if they don’t understand sometimes or if they make mistakes.
So if you ever want to say to someone something is important, you can say, ‘It’s a big deal.’
If you want to say it’s not important, you can say, ‘It’s not a big deal.’
